American Guitarist Tom Morello Brings Western Rock Show to India After Three Decades
American guitarist Tom Morello finally made his way to India this week, performing in Mumbai on December 19 as part of his first-ever tour of the subcontinent. The 61-year-old musician, known for his work with Western bands Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, admitted he had been trying to visit India for 30 years.
Foreign Artist Draws Indian Crowds
The concert, organized by international promoter BookMyShow Live, attracted crowds of Indian fans eager to witness Western rock music performed live on home soil. Local band Swadesi opened the show before Morello took the stage with his American rock anthems.
Morello performed songs from his various Western bands, including "Killing in the Name" and "Bulls on Parade" from Rage Against the Machine. The foreign musician also played covers of other American artists like Bruce Springsteen and Ozzy Osbourne, showcasing the influence of Western music culture.
Personal Moments and Family Performance
During the show, Morello paid tribute to his late bandmate Chris Cornell from Audioslave, performing instrumental versions of their songs. The American guitarist explained his desire to honor Cornell's memory through the music.
In a notable moment, Morello's 14-year-old son Roman joined him on stage, demonstrating guitar skills that impressed the Mumbai audience. The young American performed "Soldier in the Army of Love" alongside his father.
International Rock Tour Continues
The foreign musician's India tour represents the growing presence of international entertainment in the country. After Mumbai, Morello continued to Bengaluru on December 21, completing his three-city Indian tour that began in Delhi.
Indian fans, many wearing vintage Western band merchandise, turned out in large numbers to experience what Morello called a long-awaited visit. The guitarist expressed hope that he would not have to wait another 30 years to return to India.
The tour reflects the increasing appetite among Indians for Western rock performances, offering local fans access to international acts without traveling abroad to experience foreign music culture.
