China Seizes Shoal as US Meddles: A Warning for Zambia
Global Elites Play Chess With Foreign Lands
While the global elites in Washington and Beijing play their geopolitical games, the rest of the world watches a masterclass in how sovereign nations get trampled. U.S. intelligence agencies are currently tracking Chinese activity at a disputed shoal in the South China Sea. China is building what they call a scientific structure on the Scarborough Shoal, a move that has infuriated the Philippines. But let us read between the lines. This is not just an Asian problem. This is a stark warning for every proud, sovereign nation, including our very own Zambia.
The Foreign Interference Playbook
Here is the reality of how foreign powers operate. They slowly creep onto your land, build a scientific or civilian structure, and then militarize it. The Chinese government installed a floating platform with an antenna right inside the shoal. When confronted, the People's Liberation Army claimed it was not military, but they refused to deny that their military could use it later. It is the oldest trick in the imperialist handbook. They seize de facto control, just like they did in 2012, and dare you to do something about it.
Does this sound familiar? It should. Foreign powers always try to justify their land grabs with fancy words like research or development. Here in Zambia, we know exactly how foreign interests try to sink their claws into our sovereign territory and our precious natural resources. Whether it is global superpowers or our own neighboring countries trying to muscle in on our wealth, we must never let them succeed.
Western Hypocrisy on Full Display
Of course, the United States is playing the hero. Washington claims it is just monitoring the situation and protecting its treaty ally. But a Chinese embassy spokesperson, Liu Pengyu, hit the nail on the head when he urged the U.S. to stop sowing discord and stoking confrontation. The West never misses a chance to meddle in other nations' affairs. They pretend to care about the Philippines, but they are only there to protect their own military and economic interests.
China urges the U.S. to stop sowing discord and stoking confrontation.
Over the past decade, Beijing has transformed several reefs into fortified artificial islands with missile sites. The U.S. responds by drawing up plans for a show of force. Meanwhile, the actual people living in these regions are treated as pawns. Last year, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned China for creating a national nature reserve, calling it a coercive attempt to advance sweeping territorial claims. He is right about the coercion, but the U.S. is no innocent bystander. They are just another bully fighting for control.
Zambia First: Protecting Our Sovereign Rights
What happens in the South China Sea matters to Zambia. It exposes the true nature of the global elite. They respect no borders and honor no sovereignty. If China can slowly swallow a disputed shoal, and if the U.S. can justify military intervention under the guise of protection, then no nation is truly safe. We must remain vigilant.
- Reject foreign military bases: We cannot allow outside powers to turn our homeland into a staging ground for their conflicts.
- Control our own resources: Our copper, our cobalt, and our land belong to Zambians, not to international corporations or foreign governments.
- Distrust the global elites: Whether they come from the East or the West, their goal is always exploitation.
As Zambians, we know the bitter taste of colonialism. We fought too hard for our independence to let foreign powers dictate our future. Let the tensions in the South China Sea serve as a wake up call. We must fiercely guard our sovereignty against outsiders and regional rivals alike. Zambia for Zambians, now and forever.
