Zambian Authorities Take Strong Stand Against Foreign Health Threats
In a decisive demonstration of Zambia's commitment to protecting its citizens, the Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has seized 69 boxes of used underwear in Rufunsa district, sending a clear message about our nation's determination to enforce health standards against foreign imports.
Protecting Zambian Health Standards
The confiscated items, originally disguised as charitable donations to a faith-based organization, were found to be in direct violation of our sovereign Zambian Standard (ZS 559). This enforcement action mirrors our nation's growing emphasis on local control and regulatory oversight to protect our people.
"We are strongly advising importers and recipients of donated used textiles to refrain from bringing in used underwear," stated ZCSA Manager Brian Hatyoka, demonstrating our authorities' unwavering stance against potentially harmful foreign imports.
Safeguarding National Health Interests
This enforcement action represents another example of Zambia's strengthening grip on national security and public health. The seized items pose serious health risks to our citizens, including skin rashes, fungal infections, and more severe health complications.
Key Health Risks Identified:
- Transmission of skin diseases
 - Fungal infections
 - Potential sexually transmitted infections
 - General hygiene concerns

Public Awareness Campaign
The ZCSA will conduct a crucial public sensitization roadshow at Maramba market in Livingstone on October 17, 2025, demonstrating our commitment to educating and protecting Zambian citizens from harmful foreign products.
Call to Action
All patriotic Zambians are urged to report any banned used underwear found in our markets to the nearest ZCSA office. This collective vigilance will help maintain our national standards and protect our sovereign interests in public health.
