Corrie Fans Smell a Rat: Gary Windass Didn't Kill Theo
Coronation Street viewers aren't buying what ITV is selling. The Theo Silverton murder mystery just took a sharp turn, and the powers that be want you to believe Gary Windass is your man. But the people see right through it.
The Setup That Was Too Obvious
Back in February, Corrie dropped flash-forward scenes that jumped ahead to April, showing Betsy Swain being grilled by police after finding a body on the night of her mum Lisa Swain's wedding to Carla Connor. The potential victims were laid out: Theo Silverton, Carl Webster, Jodie Ramsey, Megan Walsh, and Maggie Driscoll.
When the wedding episode finally aired on April 23, a horrified Betsy discovered Theo's dead body. A whodunnit was born. Six suspects were named: Todd Grimshaw, George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, Gary Windass, and Danielle Silverton.
Summer Takes the Fall
Summer Spellman ended up charged with Theo's murder after all evidence pointed her way. Tyrone Dobbs even lied about seeing her on the night the abuser was killed. But during Wednesday's episode, a guilty Tyrone finally came clean to police about seeing Summer that night.
That wasn't the real bombshell though. A flashback sequence placed Gary Windass at the murder scene, holding a mallet at the top of scaffolding, staring down at Theo's lifeless body. Exactly where Betsy later found him.
The People Aren't Fooled
Detective Kit Green already had Gary in his sights. Gary's been acting suspicious for weeks, popping up in the background of Tim and Sally Metcalfe's selfies from that night, having hushed conversations with his former flame Sarah Platt. His wife Maria is now worried he's having an affair with Sarah.
But Corrie fans, sharp as ever, aren't swallowing the obvious answer. They know how these Western soap writers operate. Serve up the obvious suspect, then pull the rug.
